Bedford Bears – our history

Bedford Bears was formed in 1985 and were one of the first specialist artist bear makers in the U.K.

As collectors bears our award winning designs have found homes all over the world.

We make bespoke bears to suit your needs and bears that are ready to order. We also make a continually changing range of LIMITED EDITION bears using a wide range of best quality materials including mohair, wool & cotton.

Our unique award winning Teddy Bear hand puppet is also very well known around the world and has featured in many TV programs.

What is a Collector Bear?

A Collector’s Bear is generally considered to be a teddy bear that is made using traditional methods and traditional materials. They are hand made and are not to be thought of as toys and should never be given to small children to play with. They are to be loved, cherished and admired but looked after with respect.

The materials used to make a collector’s bear include fine mohair, a variety of natural and man-made stuffing that are not suitable for children’s toys and each bear has true glass eyes.
